The best electric scooter for most adults is the Segway Ninebot MAX G3. It's the most refined and comfortable scooter in the independent tests I read, with 28 mph tested top speed, dual hydraulic suspension and IPX6 water resistance. If you want most of that ride for less, the Navee ST3 Pro is my value pick. If you're on a tight budget, start with the Navee GT3 Pro.

Those are my picks for the best electric scooters for adults 2027, but the best e scooter 2027 for your money depends on how you ride: how far, how hilly, how much you need to carry it, and what you're willing to spend. This guide gives you 9 full picks, the tested numbers behind each one, and a simple way to choose.

I want to be straight about how this guide was built. I haven't ridden these scooters, and I won't claim otherwise. My picks come from independent track-test data, mainly ERideHero's measured speed, range, braking and hill results and TechGearLab's ranking of 18 scooters it bought and rode, plus the manufacturers' stated specs. Where a number is a test result rather than a claim, I say so. I'm writing this in October 2026 and I'll update the guide as new 2027 models launch.

Best electric scooters 2027 at a glance#

Here are the top picks in one table. Speed, range, weight and battery size are figures measured by ERideHero's testers, except where I note otherwise. Manufacturer claims for range are usually much higher, so I've used tested numbers wherever I could. Think of this page as an electric scooter buying guide 2027 comparison in one place.

How I chose these scooters#

Reviews that only repeat spec sheets don't help you, so here's the method behind these best electric scooter reviews 2027 picks. People often search for the top rated and best selling electric scooters 2027, but I don't have sales data, so I rank by test results instead.

  1. Tested numbers over claims. Independent testers measure speed, range and braking themselves. ERideHero says claimed range is often 40 to 60 percent higher than what riders actually get. So the table above uses measured range.
  2. Agreement between testers. A scooter that does well in more than one independent test earns more trust. TechGearLab's testers ranked the MAX G3 first among the 18 scooters they bought and rode, with the MAX G2 right behind it.
  3. Ride quality and comfort. Suspension, tire type and deck size decide whether a 30-minute commute feels fine or punishing.
  4. Safety features and warranty. Brakes, lights, turn signals, a water-resistance rating, a sturdy folding mechanism and clear warranty terms matter more than a headline top speed.
  5. Weight and portability. A scooter you can't carry up your stairs is a different purchase than one you can.
  6. Reliability and support. I favored established brands with a track record, because a warranty and parts availability matter once something wears out.

I left out hyperscooters for most of this guide, because at 100 pounds and higher they're a different category from the commuter scooters most people are shopping for. I mention them near the end.

Segway Ninebot MAX G3: best overall#

Best for: riders who want the most comfortable, refined commuter and don't mind paying more.

The MAX G3 sits at the top of two independent lists. TechGearLab's testers named it the best of the 18 scooters in their test and said they still enjoyed riding it after about 500 miles and a year of use. ERideHero picks it for the best ride quality in the commuter class.

The tested numbers are strong rather than extreme: 28 mph top speed, 3.5 seconds from standstill to 15 mph, a 10.8-foot braking distance, and 24.9 miles of real-world range from a 597 Wh battery. The motor is rated at 850 W, and the scooter carries riders up to 286 pounds.

What stands out is how it rides. It has dual hydraulic, adjustable suspension, 11-inch self-healing tubeless tires and an IPX6 water-resistance rating, the highest of the commuter picks. ERideHero calls its steering stable and precise even at top speed.

Pros

  • Best suspension and ride quality in this guide
  • IPX6 water resistance
  • 286 lb rider capacity
  • Strong acceleration and short braking distance

Cons

  • Costs more than the ST3 Pro and KQi 300X
  • Tested range is the same as the cheaper ST3 Pro
  • At 54.2 lb and bulky, it's not a scooter to carry far

Check the current price

Best for: commuters who want near-premium comfort without the premium price.

The ST3 Pro is the one I'd point most budget-conscious commuters toward. ERideHero rates it the best value in the commuter class, and says its ride quality comes close to the MAX G3's at a lower price. The tested numbers back that up.

Tested figures: 24.8 mph top speed, 24.9 miles of range, 4.0 seconds to 15 mph, and an 11.5-foot braking distance from a drum-and-disc brake setup. It has a 596.7 Wh, 48V battery, a 600 W motor, dual suspension and self-healing 10-inch tubeless tires. It also has turn signals, GPS tracking and an IPX5 rating, and it climbed ERideHero's steepest 17 percent test hill with power to spare.

Pros

  • Excellent value for what you get
  • Dual suspension and self-healing tubeless tires
  • Consistent 48V performance
  • Turn signals and GPS tracking

Cons

  • Heavy at 55 lb

If weight is your concern, the KQi 300X below saves about 6 pounds.

NIU KQi 300X: best balanced commuter#

Best for: riders who want a reliable all-rounder from a brand with a long track record.

The 300X doesn't win any single category, and that's the point. ERideHero measured 23.6 mph, 26.8 miles of range (better than the ST3 Pro and the MAX G3) and 3.8 seconds to 15 mph. It weighs 48.7 pounds, the lightest of the commuter picks, and has a 608 Wh battery and a 500 W motor.

Its dual hydraulic disc brakes stopped in 10.7 feet, the shortest distance in that group. It's front-suspension only, so the ride is less plush than the dual-suspension scooters, and the testers praise its folding mechanism as the best they've tried. TechGearLab scored it 73.

Pros

  • Best folding mechanism the testers have used
  • Long tested range for its weight
  • Short braking distance
  • Strong app

Cons

  • Front suspension only
  • Disc brakes need occasional adjustment
  • No GPS tracking

Vmax VX2 Hub: best range and performance#

Best for: long commutes and riders who hate charging.

The VX2 Hub is built around a big battery. ERideHero measured a 35.6-mile real-world range from its 874 Wh pack, more than 10 miles beyond any other commuter pick here, plus a 33.5 mph top speed and 2.9 seconds to 15 mph. It has IPX6 water resistance, a 287 lb rider capacity and dual suspension.

The cost of that range is weight. At 57.1 lb it's the heaviest in the guide, the app is basic and the handlebars are narrower than the others. If you want to dig deeper into range, my long-range electric scooters guide goes further.

Check the current price

Best for: budget buyers who still want a comfortable ride.

The GT3 Pro is ERideHero's best budget pick, and TechGearLab ranked it among its tested scooters with a score of 72. Dual suspension, 10-inch tubeless tires and a 48V system are rare at this price. The testers measured 20.6 mph, 23.3 miles of range and 5.35 seconds to 15 mph, and it climbed their steepest 17 percent hill where the two other budget picks failed. It has turn signals, GPS tracking and an IPX5 rating, with a 400 W motor, a 477.4 Wh battery and a 265 lb load limit.

The trade-off is size. At 48.5 lb with non-folding handlebars, it's heavy for a budget scooter.

Pros

  • Dual suspension and tubeless tires at a budget price
  • Real-world range of 23.3 miles
  • Handles steep hills better than its cheaper rivals

Cons

  • Heavy for the price class
  • No foldable handlebars
  • Display is hard to read in direct sun

For a longer list at this price, see my guide to budget electric scooters.

Segway Ninebot E3 Pro: most reliable beginner scooter#

Best for: first-time owners who want something dependable and easy to live with.

The E3 Pro doesn't win on any one number, and that's why I like it for beginners. ERideHero measured 19.3 mph, 17.2 miles of range and 40.1 lb, with a 368 Wh battery, a 400 W motor, 10-inch tubeless tires and an IPX5 rating. TechGearLab scored it 68.

The Segway app is among the best, with cruise control, adjustable acceleration and brake curves and over-the-air updates. Be honest with yourself about the limits: it runs a 36V system, so power fades as the battery drains, braking distance was a longer 16.5 feet, and it failed the 17 percent hill test.

If this is your first scooter, my guide on how to ride an electric scooter covers the basics.

Check the current price

NIU KQi 100F: best compact budget scooter#

Best for: riders who need to carry or store a scooter every day.

The 100F's foldable handlebars are its headline feature, and ERideHero says they're the best it has tested because they don't loosen with vibration. It weighs 38.8 lb and has a 48V system, a 300 W motor and a 243 Wh battery. Tested speed was 17.4 mph, range was 11.4 miles, and it struggled on hills.

It's a flat-to-moderate commute scooter. If your route is under 10 miles each way and you can charge at work, it's a sensible choice.

Check the current price

NIU KQi Air: best ultralight#

Best for: carrying your scooter every day without giving up a full-size ride.

At 26.4 lb with a carbon fiber frame, the KQi Air is almost half the weight of most commuter scooters. ERideHero measured 20.1 mph and 24.2 miles of range, a range-to-weight ratio it calls the best it has tested. It has 9.5-inch tubeless self-healing tires, a 48V system, a 451.2 Wh battery, turn signals and an IP55 rating.

The downsides are clear: no suspension, handlebars that don't fold, and a high price for the specs. But if lifting your scooter is part of your daily routine, nothing else in this guide comes close on weight. See also my guide to lightweight and foldable electric scooters.

Check the current price

Apollo Go: best lightweight for hills#

Best for: hilly commutes where you still need to carry the scooter.

The Apollo Go packs two motors, 700 W combined, into a 46 lb scooter, and ERideHero reports it held 12 mph on its steepest 17 percent hill, the best result among scooters under 50 lb. Tested speed was 26.7 mph, with 19.8 miles of range from a 540 Wh battery. It has front spring and rear rubber suspension, pre-sealed tubeless tires, turn signals and an IP66 rating.

The catches: a 36V system that loses top speed as the battery drops, a modest range for a dual-motor, and 9-inch tires that are smaller than ideal. If you want range at low weight, the KQi Air does better. If you want hill power at low weight, the Go does.

Fast scooters and a few more worth a look#

Fast scooters. If you want to go much faster, hyperscooters exist. ERideHero tested the Nami Burn-E 2 Max at 61.2 mph and 59.8 miles of range at 103 lb, and the Kaabo King GTR off-road at 66 mph at 137 lb. Both are expensive and impractical to carry, and they're a different purchase from a commuter scooter. My guide on fast, high-performance electric scooters covers that category, and off-road and hill-climbing scooters covers rough terrain.

Also worth a look. TechGearLab's list scored several other scooters well that I haven't covered in detail: the Segway Ninebot MAX G2 (80, just behind the G3 and noticeably cheaper), the Isinwheel GT2 (78) and the Gotrax G4 (73). I'd shortlist the MAX G2 if the G3 stretches your budget, and I'd check current prices before you decide.

Other needs. If you'd rather sit, see my pick of scooters with a seat. For students, see the best electric scooters for college students. For younger riders, see the best kids' electric scooters for teens. New models are covered in new electric scooters and e-scooters.

The ratings and loads come from the testers' spec tables. Manufacturers sometimes revise a model, so check the label and spec sheet on the exact version you buy. For weight limits in particular, my guide on how much weight an electric scooter can hold explains what the number means.

How to choose an electric scooter for adults#

Specs only help if you know which ones matter. These are the ones I'd weigh, in order.

  1. Real-world range, not claimed range. Plan on the tested figure, then add a safety margin. My guide on how long an electric scooter battery lasts on one charge explains why range falls with speed, weight and hills.
  2. Battery voltage. The testers note that 48V scooters hold their speed better as the battery drains than 36V ones, which lose noticeable power below about half a charge.
  3. Weight. If you'll carry the scooter, anything over about 45 lb gets old fast.
  4. Suspension and tires. Dual suspension and big tubeless tires make a rough commute far more comfortable. Self-healing tubeless tires also cut down on flats.
  5. Brakes. A dual-brake setup with regenerative braking stops sooner and needs less upkeep.
  6. Water resistance. An IP rating tells you how much splash or rain a scooter is built to handle. If you're not sure how to read one, Wikipedia's explanation of the IP code is a good primer, and my rain guide above covers what it means for scooters.
  7. Rider weight limit. Check that the scooter's maximum load comfortably exceeds your weight plus anything you carry.
  8. Safety certification and warranty. Look for a recognized electrical safety certification for the battery and charger, and read the warranty for what it excludes. A scooter with a clear warranty and local support is worth more than a bargain with none.
  9. Features you'll actually use. Turn signals, GPS tracking, a decent app and a bright display all matter on a daily commute.
  10. Total cost. The sticker price isn't the whole picture. See my guide on how much an electric scooter costs to buy for what to budget.

If you want a deeper electric scooter buying guide 2027 comparison, start with the table above and then work down this list for the scooters you're torn between.

Best e scooter brands 2027#

The best e scooter brands 2027 buyers should know come down to a short list, based on how the independent tests treated them:

  • Segway-Ninebot. The most established name in the tests. ERideHero praises the build quality and the app, and TechGearLab ranks the MAX G3 and G2 at the top of its list.
  • NIU. Known for strong build quality, its app and especially its folding mechanisms. The 300X, 100F and Air all appear in this guide.
  • Navee. The ST3 Pro and GT3 Pro appear here because the testers found unusual value at their price.
  • Apollo. The Go is its compact, dual-motor hill-climber.
  • Vmax. Focuses on range, as the VX2 Hub shows.
  • Others to check. Gotrax and Isinwheel scored well in TechGearLab's testing.

Brand matters most for support and parts. Before buying, check the warranty terms, whether there's a US service option, and how the company handles repairs.
